Junior High SOAR Program

Highlights of the SOAR Program for 7th – 8th Grade include:

• Students attend SOAR classes for English, Math, Science, History (8th), Geography (7th), and Computer/Graphic Arts.

• Students attend SVCS mainstream classes for Bible and P.E.

• Class size is limited so that a small group environment can be maintained.

• SVCS curriculum is used throughout the SOAR program.

• Additional multi-sensory materials and methodologies are integrated into the curriculum to assist with differentiating instruction for Junior High students.

• This program provides for an intensive program of remediation and assistance to prepare SOAR students for the High School experience.

• Frequent guest speakers and field trips are scheduled to allow students to experience subject matter in a more concrete and multi-sensory fashion.

• The use of the computer lab and SOAR laptops allow students to implement current technology into their daily experience.

• The SOAR staff sets individual goals for improvement for each student based on annual NWEA testing. For more information about NWEA testing, please go to nwea.org/assessments

• Support and instruction is given in the areas of organization, study skills, note-taking, how to effectively read informational text, and how to approach a test.

• Students may also receive additional one-on-one help during their P.E. period in a pull-out program as needed.
