Junior High SOAR Program
Highlights of the SOAR Program for 7th – 8th Grade include:
Students attend SOAR classes for English, Math, Science, History (8th), Geography (7th), and Computer/Graphic Arts.
Students attend SVCS mainstream classes for Bible and P.E.
Class size is limited so that a small group environment can be maintained.
SVCS curriculum is used throughout the SOAR program.
Additional multi-sensory materials and methodologies are integrated into the curriculum to assist with differentiating instruction for Junior High students.
This program provides for an intensive program of remediation and assistance to prepare SOAR students for the High School experience.
Frequent guest speakers and field trips are scheduled to allow students to experience subject matter in a more concrete and multi-sensory fashion.
The use of the computer lab and SOAR laptops allow students to implement current technology into their daily experience.
The SOAR staff sets individual goals for improvement for each student based on annual NWEA testing. For more information about NWEA testing, please go to nwea.org/assessments
Support and instruction is given in the areas of organization, study skills, note-taking, how to effectively read informational text, and how to approach a test.
Students may also receive additional one-on-one help during their P.E. period in a pull-out program as needed.
