Highlights of the SOAR Program for High School (Full Program) include:
The program is currently available to students in 9th and 10th Grades; plans are in place to add 11th Grade in the fall of 2008.
Students attend SOAR English class and 7th period SOAR support.
Students attend mainstream classes in all other subject areas.
A multi-sensory SOAR Spanish program is offered beginning in 10th Grade and counts toward the graduation requirements for SVCS.
Students receive specifically prepared study guides for tests in all of their classes through the SOAR program.
All assessment and testing is started in the mainstream class, but is finished in the SOAR support period.
Students receive accommodations to their testing as needed.
The use of laptops and assistive technology is permitted in the SOAR and mainstream classes for our students.
Support for report writing, research, and project completion is provided by the SOAR staff.
Individual goals for improvement are set by the SOAR staff for each student.
Frequent communication between classroom teachers and home is initiated by SOAR staff.
Weekly review of grade reports and follow-up is provided for the students and their parents.
Weekly monitoring of all assignments in the mainstream is provided by the SOAR staff, and accommodations are given to the mainstream teachers for our students as needed.
Students receive re-teaching weekly in the area of math from trained SOAR staff members.
Class size is limited to maintain a small group setting.
All curriculum used is SVCS mainstream curriculum with supplemental material provided by SOAR staff to enhance learning.
