Highlights of the SOAR Program for High School include:
Students are all enrolled in a block period of SOAR English by grade level.
SOAR students receive instruction in Algebra 1 from SOAR Staff.
Students take all other math courses in the mainstream with support provided by SOAR math specialist.
SOAR English class is a small group, multi-sensory classroom.
SVCS-approved curriculum is implemented in the English class using both textbook and CD ROM technologies.
Laptops and SOAR computer lab are available for student use daily.
Students also receive support and instruction in the areas of study skills and positive classroom behaviors.
Students are enrolled in mainstream classes for the remainder of the school day.
SOAR staff collaborates with all mainstream teachers to accommodate individual programs for the SOAR students.
SOAR students receive specially prepared study guides and resources to assist in completion of coursework in all academic subjects.
Tests for all courses are given in the SOAR classroom in an un-timed setting.
Support is given for the completion of all long range projects in all academic courses.
Students receive support for setting individual goals for improvement and meet regularly with SOAR Director for assistance in meeting those goals.
SOAR staff provides frequent communication between mainstream teachers, students, and parents.
