Highlights of the SOAR Program for Kindergarten – 2nd Grade include:
Students receive 60 minutes per day of instruction in language arts, and an additional 60 minutes per day of instruction in math. (The balance of their instruction is done within their mainstream classroom).
The students benefit from the daily use of SVCS curriculum, as well as SOAR methodologies.
Delivery of instruction and assessment is accommodated to meet the individual learning needs of our students.
All tests that are scheduled by mainstream teachers are given in the SOAR pull-out program.
Students in 5th and 6th Grades receive specifically designed study guides to assist in test preparation.
Academic coaches” (trained high school Advanced Placement students) are available to assist some SOAR students for a portion of the school day in their mainstream classes.
SOAR teachers grade and create report cards for SOAR students in the areas of language arts and math. (Classroom teachers grade and create report cards for the content area subjects).
The SOAR staff sets individual goals for improvement for each student based on annual NWEA testing. For more information about NWEA testing, please go to www.nwea.org/assessments/ .
Continuous communication is maintained between SOAR staff and mainstream teachers.
Students also receive coaching and assistance in the areas of organization, study skills, and positive classroom behavior.
