Behavior Statement
SVCS and the SOAR staff recognize the reality that students with learning challenges also may, at times, exhibit certain behaviors in the classroom that interfere with their learning, as well as the learning of their classmates. Support is given to students to assist in appropriate classroom behavior and social skills. However, neither SVCS nor the SOAR program is equipped to deal with students whose primary presenting difficulty is behavior. We are unable to meet the needs of students who are in need of behavioral modification programs at more than a minor level.
Junior High and High School SOAR students and their parents must sign contracts at the beginning of each school year outlining expectations for participation, working toward adequate academic progress, and behavior in the classroom. When students are in violation of this contract, they receive counseling from the SOAR Director, and the Junior High/High School Principal. If the academic or behavioral concerns continue, a probationary period is initiated. Removal from the program will be the result of continued behavioral infractions.
