Highlights of the SOAR Program for 5th and 6th Grade include:

• Instruction takes place in a small group, self-contained SOAR classroom.

• Students benefit from presence of two full-time teachers and an aid.

• Lead teacher holds special education teaching credential with emphasis in multi-aged groupings.

• SVCS curriculum is implemented and delivered using multi-sensory SOAR methodologies.

• Students receive instruction from SOAR staff in the areas of language arts and math.

• Students combine with the mainstream 5th and 6th grade classrooms for instruction in the areas of history and science.

• Students participate in and attend all grade level recess and lunch periods, as well as all field trips and activities.

• The SOAR staff sets individual goals for improvement based on tri-annual NWEA testing.

• Students also receive support and instruction in the areas of study skills and positive classroom behavior.

• Teachers maintain frequent communication between classroom and home.
