Highlights of the SOAR Program for 5th and 6th Grade include:
Instruction takes place in a small group, self-contained SOAR classroom.
Students benefit from presence of two full-time teachers and an aid.
Lead teacher holds special education teaching credential with emphasis in multi-aged groupings.
SVCS curriculum is implemented and delivered using multi-sensory SOAR methodologies.
Students receive instruction from SOAR staff in the areas of language arts and math.
Students combine with the mainstream 5th and 6th grade classrooms for instruction in the areas of history and science.
Students participate in and attend all grade level recess and lunch periods, as well as all field trips and activities.
The SOAR staff sets individual goals for improvement based on tri-annual NWEA testing.
Students also receive support and instruction in the areas of study skills and positive classroom behavior.
Teachers maintain frequent communication between classroom and home.
